This is a full-time, 12 month, live-in professional staff member of the Housing/Residence Life Office. The Area Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Director of Residence Life and is responsible for the direct supervision of campus housing resident assistants, residence hall directors, community programming director and the day to day operation of assigned housing areas.
Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 150,287 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Position Summary

The Area Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Director of Residence Life and is responsible for the direct supervision of campus housing resident assistants, residence hall directors, community programming director and the day to day operation of assigned housing areas.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide overall support and management of a residential hall/area housing 550-700 residents, resident assistants and undergraduate residence hall directors.
- Work with student staff and students to develop programs and initiatives designed to build community and enhance the overall experience of residential students.
- Adjudicate disciplinary cases for assigned areas.
- Provide student support for issues that arise throughout the year.
- Manage and maintain budgets for assigned halls/areas.
- Provide administrative support for building maintenance reporting and follow-up, room safety/security checks, processing room changes and check outs, key management and building security.
- Intervene with residential students identified as academically at risk.
- Assist in the selection, training and supervision of Residence Hall Directors, Community Programming Directors and Resident Assistants.
- Serve in on call rotation and respond to emergencies and student issues/concerns
- Serve on Division and University committees as assigned
- Serve as advisor for one or more of the following functional areas within Residence Life: staff development/training, staff selection, judicial report processing, social media and marketing, Residence Hall Association or intramurals wellness
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), Roompact, StarRez and SungardHE Banner.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
- Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
- Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to effectively manage non traditional housing.
- Ability to prepare and monitor budgets.
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Ability to drive a university vehicle.
- Ability to follow university and housing policies and procedures.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs and lift a minimum of 15 lbs
- Must be an advocate for students and staff, and be customer service oriented.
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Bachelor's degree.
- A minimum of two (2) years of previous work experience in higher education.
- Valid driver's license.
- A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
