Position Summary Information
Position Summary
The Financial Aid Assistant is responsible for processing incoming student loan funds, coordination of disbursement of loan funds with Student Account Services, and monitoring the return of funds to the lender and Department of Education, if necessary.
Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
This is a part-time (53%) position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
-Process incoming loan disbursements (electronic and paper).
-Return loan funds to comply with Federal regulations.
-Process revisions to awards and notification to the lenders and Department of Education.
-Communication, verbal and written regarding their loan disbursement.
-Supervise and train FWS student workers as needed.
-Process and certify loan applications.
-Daily transmissions of application file and the receipt of daily disbursements.
-Assist reception area with phone and walk-in traffic.
-Process daily and weekly reports to ensure loan funds roll to student accounts.
-Liaison to the Guarantee Agencies and Lenders and Department of Education..
-Establish loan disbursement dates and application deadlines.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and Ellucian Banner.
-Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
-Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
-Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
-Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
-Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
-Ability to effectively supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner.
-Ability to understand and comply with detailed federal regulations.
-Ability to perform accurate mathematical computations.
Physical Requirements
-Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Financial aid or enrollment management experience is preferred.
- A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
