The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure‐track Assistant/Associate Professor focused on adult neurogenic communication disorders and dysphagia, with an appointment to begin in August 2024.

CSUF faculty are committed teachers and scholars who bring research and creative discovery to students in classrooms, labs, and individually mentored projects. Responsibilities of this position include (a) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language pathology in their expertise area(s); (b) engaging in a systematic program of scholarly research; (c) actively participating in faculty governance that includes engaging in activities that support an equitable and inclusive environment for colleagues and students; (d) serving on department, college, and university committees; (e) developing and improving instructional curriculum; and (f) providing academic advisement to students. Specific courses that the successful candidate will be expected to teach include COMD 542, Graduate Seminar in Neurogenic and Clinical Aspects of Speech, Language, and Cognition; COMD 543, Graduate Seminar in Dysphagia; and COMD 544, Graduate Seminar in Neurogenic Speech, Language, and Cognitive Disorders.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in communication sciences and disorders/speech-language pathology with an emphasis in adult neurogenic and swallowing disorders. Strong candidates in other areas of related expertise will be considered. ABDs will be considered but must have doctorate completed before the appointment date.

Earned ASHA CCC-SLP.

Qualification for immediate California licensure in speech-language pathology.

Knowledge/experience needed to teach courses with an emphasis on adult language disorders, dysphagia, cognitive-communication disorders, or motor speech disorders.

Evidence of strong potential for teaching effectiveness at CSUF.

Evidence of strong potential for research leading to the scholarly publications necessary for tenure.

For associate rank, evidence of an established record of research productivity and peer-reviewed publications.

Demonstrated commitment to culturally and linguistically diverse student populations, including first‐generation college students.

Experience/evidence of working harmoniously with students, colleagues, and local community members.

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of publication ready manuscripts

Experience working on projects involving two or more individuals for a common purpose with colleagues and community partners

Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship, and service

Experience/evidence of interacting successfully in a multicultural environment

The College and Department
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Communications was established in Fall 2017. Prior to becoming a department, it was the Communicative Disorders Program in the Department of Human Communication Studies. We have been accredited by the Council on Academic Programs in audiology and speech-language pathology since 1971. We have a large undergraduate program with approximately 500 majors with a diverse group of students. The graduate program became a cohort model in 2019 and admits 30 students annually.

Currently we have 7 tenure-track faculty members with various expertise, one full-time lecturer, and one full-time director of the Speech and Hearing Clinic.

Compensation
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range for this position is $6,463to $6,588 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year).

Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work (https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm).

Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
