Job Title: Sports Clerk
The Free Lance Star is seeking a talented and passionate part-time Sports Clerk to join our team. As a Sports Clerk, you will be responsible for supporting the sports department in gathering and organizing information, as well as assisting with research and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist sports reporters in gathering and organizing information for articles, including researching statistics and background information
- Monitor sports news and events to keep the sports department up-to-date on breaking news and trends
- Assist with editing and proofreading sports articles for accuracy and clarity
- Help maintain the sports department's database of contacts and resources
- Provide administrative support, such as answering phone calls and responding to emails
- Collaborate with other departments within the newsroom to ensure timely and accurate coverage of sports events
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Passion for sports and a deep understanding of the industry and its trends
- Strong research and analytical skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Experience with content management systems and other newsroom software is a plus
