Job Description

Basic Function & Responsibilities:

Designated school official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO): Responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the Department of Homeland Security Immigration documents issued to prospective and current international students and scholars and advising students and scholars on maintaining their nonimmigrant status.

Job Functions:

Immigration Responsibilities-
  • Assist and advise prospective and current students, scholars, and the campus community on obtaining and maintaining F-1 student visa status and J-1 exchange visitor visa status. This includes, but is not limited to, employment, enrollment, and meeting requirements to maintain status
  • Process documents and manage records within the SEVIS database (government system)
  • Stay abreast of US federal regulations affecting international students and scholars
  • Keep students and scholars apprised of current immigration regulations, requirements, and cross-cultural issues
  • Provide advocacy for international students/scholars on campus and in community forums. Assist in the internationalization of the university and community
  • Assist in programming to integrate international students/scholars into campus and community life
  • Provide backup for other advisors in the event of absence
Faculty Interface-
  • Coordinate and interface with faculty regarding international student/scholar issues such as reduced enrollment, completion of a degree program, extension of a degree program, departmental FTE, and other funding awards
  • Provide accurate and professional level immigration advice to academic advisors regarding their international students'/scholars' visa status
Administration-
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new programs and processes as needed
Office Representation-
  • Represent the Office of International Affairs in various committees and meetings which impact international students/scholars
  • Represent the Office of International Affairs at student group meetings and events
Additional Responsibilities-
  • Required support for student programs and events
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $19.00 to $22.00 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
