Maintenance Assistant
The Maintenance Technician will perform a variety of basic to moderately complex building maintenance and facility maintenance assignments. The duties will include, but are not limited to hands-on maintenance/repair of appliances, windows and doors, cabinets and countertops, drywall, flooring, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc. The duties will also include inspecting buildings to confirm safety standards as well as the coordinating repairs with the building's inhabitants. The work will be performed under specific instructions and general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor as well as the Executive Director.
Examples of Work:
- Performing routine maintenance such as fixing minor structural damage, for example, window, door, or wall repair
- Interior and exterior painting
- Repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures
- Replacing electrical fixtures, outlets, and switches
- Assisting in maintaining HVAC equipment
- Inspecting the grounds and exterior of the buildings for actual or potential maintenance issues
- Applying preventative measures to reduce the risk of future problems
- Maintaining shop areas, tools, equipment, vehicles, appliances, facilities, buildings and grounds in good repair and marketable condition
- Following all operational safety policies & practices
- Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to relate to the residents, public, and housing authority staff with tact and patience
- Ability to understand and effectively perform the assigned work from oral or written directions
- Sufficient physical strength and agility and freedom from disabling physical defects to do heavy manual labor, including under adverse weather conditions
- Ability to maintain records and prepare written reports
- Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver’s License
Training & Experience:
- GED/H.S. diploma required.
- State licensed preferred.
Pay Rate:
- Salary is negotiable and will be based on education, experience, and/or licensure.
