Production Manager, Hancher Auditorium
Hancher Auditorium is excited to bring aboard a new Production Manager. If you have experience in production and/or presentation of a variety of performances, and managing stagehand activities, this may be your next career move!
As a full-time Production Manager, you will serve manage events at Hancher Auditorium and other spaces, supervise and run shows presented on and off site. You are the primary contact for hourly staff and will also:
- Provide leadership in envisioning the future of performance standards, methods, venues, and staff for the performing arts at Iowa.
- Advise on schedules, budgets, and overall feasibility of production.
- Collaborate with staff in the Performing Arts Production Unit and academic departments (Dance, Music, Theatre) on co-productions and special events for Performing Arts at Iowa
- Direct the hiring, scheduling, evaluation, and coordination of student crews and local IATSE Stagehands or other labor groups to accomplish setup, performance, and take-down work as needed for users of the facilities as well as any presentations in alternate venues.
- Hire, develop and manage the performance of staff: ensure staff are compliant with UI policies and procedures.

Position Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre or stage management or equivalent combination of related education and experience is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Demonstrates considerable (typically 3-5 years) experience in technical production including a practical knowledge of theatrical systems to include: lighting, performance sound, rigging and personnel management.
- Demonstrates considerable experience working in a multipurpose facility presenting events including Broadway, dance, theater, orchestra, and chamber music.
- Demonstrates reasonable experience working with professional touring companies.
- Demonstrates reasonable experience in management.
Demonstrates an Extensive proficiency level in:
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates a history of excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
Desired:
Demonstrates an level in:
- Experience working, scheduling, and negotiating agreement terms with professional stagehands union is highly desirable.
- Experience working within an educational institution.
Compensation: $65,000-$72,000 anticipated starting annual salary. Salary will be discussed at time of interviews.
