Job Description Summary:
Hoglund Biomedical Imaging Center (Hoglund) invites applications for a Magnetic Resonance Scientist to join a multidisciplinary team that supports diverse research projects at the University of Kansas Medical Center and
the region. The HBIC provides a rich, collaborative environment for imaging research in both animal models
and humans.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team at the HBIC and will serve a key role in collaborating with investigators to turn research questions into exciting, rigorously designed studies that take advantage of the full range of state-of-the-art imaging capabilities.
A major focus at Hoglund is the investigation of metabolic and physiologic changes in normal aging and neurologic diseases. This work builds on extensive MRS sequence development to quantify metabolites linked
to oxidative stress, antioxidants, and brain energy metabolism and contributes to studies in Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, nutrition, and muscle metabolism.

This position will develop analysis techniques for rigorous quantification of metabolic imaging signals measured using magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy (MRS) in collaborations with NIH-funded investigators. It requires substantial programming skills with strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving aptitudes. The successful candidate will provide design, data analysis, interpretation, and training support through collaborations with principal investigators on several projects. They will use their experience in
MR technical development to create state-of-the-art methods to answer challenging biomedical and clinical questions

This position requires a background in bioengineering, computing, chemistry, or physics (or related discipline) a good understanding of MR physics, techniques and signal processing, programming skills, strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and writing skills and a demonstration of organization and teamwork skills.

Job Description:

Leading efforts to develop a quantitative MRS data analysis system.
 Collaborating on various studies to
o design analysis strategies and ensure rigorous data are available in a timely manner
o train research teams on data analysis methods.
o prepare publications, grant applications and presentations

 Managing technical development and progress of team projects.

 Overseeing execution and progress of studies.

 Performing general maintenance, including data storage and research database management

Recent doctoral graduates, post-doctoral fellows, and more experienced individuals are eligible. This is a staff scientist position which is supported by Center funds.

** Required Qualifications **
  • Doctoral degree in Bioengineering, Medical Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent. Relevant documented experience may suffice.
  • Understanding and experience of MR physics, techniques and signal processing.
  • Excellent computing skills including programming in C/C++, MATLAB, bash and others.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and writing skills.
  • Established organization and teamwork skills.


** Preferred Qualifications **
  • Experience with MRI/MRS research and in operating MR scanner including Siemens.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
