Job Summary
As a Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider, one is expected to work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary health care team. The neonatal APP functions as a member of the NICU medical management team, under the supervision of Neonatology attending physicians.
Key functions include: attend high-risk deliveries and perform resuscitation, perform and document a complete history and physical exam on admission/daily, round with multi-disciplinary team, collect and assess data, help determine diagnoses, manage diagnostic tests (through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision), develop daily plan of care, prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions, manage care pre/post-operative, serve as first responder, maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team, communicate with patient/family/staff to promote continuity of care, keep up-to-date and appropriate documentation, assist with education of residents/students, participate in educational activities and policy development within the division/department.
Key medical procedures include: neonatal resuscitation, endotracheal intubation, umbilical venous and arterial catheter insertions, peripheral arterial line insertion, exchange transfusions, lumbar puncture, and chest tube insertion. The APP should demonstrate professional practice behaviors, function as a team player, actively participate in case conferences and educational lectures, staff and committee meetings, maintain continuing medical education, and keep appropriate licensure and certification current.
