An NIH-funded research laboratory (PI: Adriana Larregina, Ph.D.) in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, research-oriented individual at the postdoctoral level.

The interest of the lab is focused on research in the fields of neurogenic inflammation, chronic skin inflammatory disorders, and cell-cell communication. The project involves in vitro and in vivo work using transgenic and inducible KO mouse models and human skin cells and utilizes state-of-the-art technology to elucidate the mechanisms underlying chronic skin inflammation. Specifically, the role of proinflammatory neuropeptides in the immune function of keratinocytes will elucidate how keratinocytes communicate with other skin cells via extracellular vesicles to initiate and amplify skin-initiated innate and adaptive immune responses. The project involves in vitro and in vivo work using transgenic and inducible KO mouse models and human skin cells and utilizes state-of-the-art technology to elucidate the mechanisms underlying skin chronic inflammation.

Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. or M.D., and have expertise in cell biology, inflammation, and the role of extracellular vesicles in cell-cell communication. The candidate should also know basic immune mechanisms and techniques, including flow cytometry, Western Blot, qRT-PCR, and multiplex assay. Experience in imaging, genomics, proteomics, and big data analysis would be optimal but not exclusive. The successful candidate will have effective written and verbal communication skills. Eligibility to apply for NIH Training grants would also be a distinct advantage.
