Job Summary
The purpose of the Pre-College Services Advising Specialist (UBMS Advisor) for the Upward Bound Math & Science program is to provide educational outreach and support services for high school students on a STEM college trajectory who wish to graduate and obtain postsecondary credentials. The duties included but not limited to outreach and recruitment of potential UBMS participants into the program, providing student advising caseload management that entails individualized student advising, planning, facilitating, and evaluating academic and cultural enrichment classes, workshops, activities, and events. The activities include academic tutoring, residential and non-residential academic enrichment summer, and year-round camps, coordinating field trips, and college tours to assist participants with successfully graduating from high school prepared to enroll in and graduate from postsecondary education.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. A Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or related fields
  2. Demonstrated work experience with high school students in an educational setting


Preferred Qualifications
  1. Masters’ Degree in fields of study that emphasizes training in educational programming, instruction, implementation, and related student academic success activities at the time of hire
  2. Experience working with first-generation, and low-income Pell and or Free Lunch recipients, and underrepresented and educationally disadvantaged populations
  3. Demonstrated experience teaching, counseling, and/or working in a position that advances high school students learning, leadership, and/or metacognitive skills.
  4. Experience with student caseload database management
  5. Excellent communication skills, as demonstrated by application materials and during interviews, where applicable
