Job Description:
As a member of the undergraduate admissions team, the Assistant Director/Admission Counselor will work closely with the Admissions and Financial Aid Division to implement recruitment and assessment activities in support of the University's annual enrollment goals. Responsibilities include managing a recruitment territory and travel schedule, conducting group information sessions and interviews- virtual and in person, and evaluating admission and scholarship applications. Other duties will be assigned based on the selected candidate's background skills, and professional experience.
The Admissions and Financial Aid division requires a high degree of teamwork and camaraderie in a rapid paced setting, empathy and care for high school students and their families, a sustainable level of energy and commitment, nuanced communication skills and creative problem-solving abilities.

Essential and Related Functions:
- Frequent correspondence with prospective students, their parents, secondary school personnel, alumni, and others, answering their questions and providing counsel about the admission process and W&L programs and opportunities.
- Interview prospective students, both in-person and virtually, in a manner that both conveys the spirit of W&L while also meeting the student where they are in their life and college search
- Conduct high-energy group information sessions, both in-person and virtually, to express the unique attributes of W&L and the admissions process at a highly selective institution
- Responsible for seasonal recruitment travel, typically in the fall and spring, for assigned geographic territory. Travel often consists of a combination of high school visits, college fairs, receptions, and information sessions, and requires flexibility, thoughtful planning, and ability to think on your feet.
- Detailed evaluation of application credentials and assessment of candidates for first-year and transfer admission and scholarship opportunities.
- Utilize technology deftly in the workplace. Effectively use Microsoft suite products and Slate CRM.
- Support the logistics and execution of 5-8 recruitment events throughout the year, including Scholarship Competitions, Open Houses, and Counselor Fly-ins.
- Additional duties will be assigned. These may be in focused recruitment areas such as BIPOC, first-generation, or rural students based on the candidate's background, interests, and prior professional expertise.
- A Bachelor's degree required.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel and work evening and weekend hours required.
- Strong communication and writing skills required.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have admissions experience or are W&L alumni.
Work Schedule: M-F 8:30-4:30 Frequent travel required.

Physical Requirements:
- Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
Types of Work: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
